Anima
The Anima is a compact performance oriented two-way monitor that
delivers designed to be used with the best world-class components.
Sound quality:
The sound is unusually unrestricted and open with a 3-dimensional,
almost holographic spatial representation and neutral tonal balance. In
a small to medium sized room the Anima provides realistic reproduction
with expressive dynamics and good bass extension and plays surprisingly
loud. The speaker is highly musical and can be listened to without any
stress for many hours.
Tweeter:
The tweeter is a combination metal and soft dome. In the middle of a
very wide textile surround is a compact aluminum-magnesium dome. This
dome is very light and stiff and is distortion free to frequencies far
above human hearing. Its large surround increases its output and lowers
its cut-off frequency.
Woofer/midrange speaker:
The woofer/midrange cone is uniquely shaped and made with a light but
stiff metal alloy with ceramic coating. The cone only begins to distort
above 8kHz, far above its operating range. Designed for dynamic
resolution, this driver delivers exceptional definition. The combined
result of our efforts is drastically reduced distortion and increased
volume with more expressive dynamics. This also contributes to the
Animas excellent bass definition and resolution of micro details, which
are so important for recreating spatial information.
Cabinet:
Due to its low price and easy machine-ability, MDF (medium density
fiberboard) has established itself as the primary material for speaker
enclosures. For performance however, it is far from optimal. Because
MDF is heavy and flexible internal sound pressure turns the entire
cabinet into a high distortion speaker. The Anima is built from
13-layer plywood costing five times more than MDF. The enclosure is
very light, stiff and well damped with constrained layer damping to
further reduce sound from exiting the cabinet walls. The net result is
a cabinet that does not add its own coloration to the music.
Crossover:
The crossover is a 12 to 24dB transitional design optimized for the
best step response and minimal energy storage. It is built with very
high quality components.
